Stylized: A Dance Competition and Convention For Every Style
Stylized: A Competition and Convention for Every Style
The mission of Stylized is to fill a gap in the dance competition industry by treating each style of dance as its own unique entity. At every competition, each style will have judges who specialize in that specific genre, providing clear-specific feedback and instruction. This approach is pivotal for dancers, teachers and choreographers to continue to learn and grow within these specialized fields.
Launching in the 2026-2027 season; the first year of this event will focus on two styles Tap and Hip-Hop before expanding into more styles for future events.
What makes Stylized Different?
Stylized aims to break the mold of the competition experience.
Judges
At most competitions judges are hired to judge all styles, even though they specialize in typically one or two. Stylized judges will be specialists in the field they are judging.
Scoring
At most competitions scoring is the same across styles. At Stylized each style will have unique scoring that represents the skills needed to thrive in that specific style.
Competition
In typical competitions, all dances of every style compete against one another. At stylized each style will compete against only that style, making comparisons more fair and accurate.
Levels
Instead of studio directors and teachers placing their dances and students into levels before the competition, at Stylized judges will decide the level of the routine via the difficulty score. This will make for more fair and consistent judging and placement for all dancers.
Convention
In addition to the competition, all dancers are invited to participate in 3-5 technique focused convention classes, which will be tailored to each specific style, allowing dancers to further expand their knowledge from industry experts. For solo entries, the convention will be included at no additional cost. Classes may include:
Career & Industry Insights (Anatomy & Injury Prevention, Dance Career Essentials: Dos & Don’ts, Finding Success in Competitive & Professional Dance)
Mindset & Wellness for Dancers (Mental Resilience: Using Perfectionism to Your Advantage, Dancer Nutrition, Habit Building, Creating a Life You Love)
Tap Technique (drills and skills, Broadway tap, improv, tap history, tap fundamentals)
Hip-Hop Technique (breaking, freestyle, popping, locking, Hip-Hop history, Hip-Hop Fundamentals)
Scoring
Each style will also have unique scoring tailored to the specific style, all totaling a maximum of 100 points per judge.

Timing/Rhythm/Musicality 20 points

Prizes will be awarded within the convention classes to stand out participants as well as to top scoring dances in each level
